MoonlitDays

– Writings from the Heart

Monsoon was round the corner
After the energy-sapping summer;
The skies darkened soon,
A drizzle heralded rainy season,
Welcome solace to the parched earth,
Rejuvenating the flora and fauna,
Filling my mind with ecstasy.
The beauteous scene sent a wave
Of joy all round in no time.

The drizzle soon turned into a downpour
With howling winds; a thunderstorm
Spread terror all round.
Overflowing rivers and submerged roads
Were akin to pouring oil into the fire.

Where there were forests once
Became barren landscapes,
Hills bulldozed to the earth,
Mangroves destroyed sans mercy,
Filled up to reclaim the land;
Canals were filled in,
Arable lands suffered the same fate.
Buildings replaced trees and plants,
Soil vanished under the tiles.

We blame Mother Nature for a
Host of unusual natural calamities.
We have only ourselves to blame.
The consequences of our own misdeeds
Boomerang on us.
Please don’t forget for a moment –
Mother Nature is a Gift of God.
